KETAMINE F.A.Q.

HOW OFTEN AND FOR HOW LONG WOULD I TAKE KETAMINE?

The cadence and duration of the treatment varies depending on your own desires for treatment and the frequency of medicine sessions that is recommended to you by our prescribers.

Everyone’s body and therapeutic needs are different, so the frequency of medicine sessions can vary from person to person. Some individuals may engage in one medicine session, while others may want to engage in multiple. Some may choose to engage in medicine sessions weekly, biweekly, monthly or on an even more spaced-out frequency. We can explore together what feels like the right approach for you.

Your feeling of safety is paramount, so we want you to know that you can always discontinue treatment at any point in the process.

HOW DOES KETAMINE FEEL?

The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant and relaxing, last for approximately 45-60 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Ketamine can enhance or induce feelings such as creativity, purpose, perspective, serenity, insight, inspiration, gratitude, empathy, connection, and openness to new ideas. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience.

Once these effects subside, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. It may feel hard to articulate what happens during the experience, and your therapist will help support you through this process in the moment and during our ongoing integration sessions.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A THERAPIST THAT I ENJOY WORKING WITH BUT AM INTERESTED IN KAP WITH YOU?

You may be interested in exploring KAP treatment and are already working with an individual therapist. That’s perfect! You do not have to be an ongoing therapy client at Mosaic Holistic Psychotherapy to engage in our KAP services, but you will need to engage in some initial onboarding and preparation work that will be supported by your primary therapist. Clients who are not engaged in therapy with Mosaic Holistic Psychotherapy do need to have a therapist that they established with.

One indisputable fact about Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is that continuing with ongoing therapy after your KAP treatment is essential to ensure that you have the support that you need to maintain the new insights, routines, practices, and behaviors that you developed through your KAP treatment.

Mosaic Holistic Psychotherapy can partner with you and your current individual therapist to integrate your care and provide the supportive healing experience that you deserve. We will keep your therapist updated throughout our KAP work and support you in coming up with a post-treatment plan that you can continue to explore and implement with your therapist. Integration is also available directly through Mosaic Holistic Psychotherapy if your therapist does not have the same thorough training that we do with Psychedelic Assisted Therapy.

WHAT IF I WANT TO TRY KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY WITHOUT ANY INITIAL LONG TERM COMMITMENT?

Although much of the available research shows that KAP is most effective when a patient undergoes a sequence of 6-8 medicine sessions, you are welcome to engage in just one medicine session. We understand that this could be an important way to see how ketamine feels in your body, and whether you are comfortable with using this medicine again. We will explore your experience together as part of our integration work and after the first medicine session, you can decide whether you want to engage in additional KAP sessions.

ARE KAP SERVICES IN PERSON OR VIRTUAL?

Mosaic Holistic Psychotherapy offer both in-person and virtual sessions via a HIPAA-compliant video conference platform. Especially for initial preparation sessions and the first medicine sessions, we highly recommend clients come in for in-person sessions. We will work with you 1-1 to determine the best and most accessible plan for each client. For clients who need and are appropriate for virtual medicine sessions, a client-selected chaperone is required to be physically present in the same residence as the client throughout the duration of a virtual dosing session. Hybrid options are also available.

Believe in who you want to be.
